A Research Of Quality Of Life For Disabled Elders In Country

Since the aging trend is accelerating in China, the amount of disabled elders is also increasing. The total number of disabled elder has reached 3.7 million by now. Looking into the difference between the city and countryside, the proportion of disabled elders’ population in the countryside, which is 6.9%, is obviously higher than which in the urban, which is 5.0%. In the rural area, the quality of disabled elders’ lives are extremely poor because of the undeveloped economy and infrastructure condition in countryside. Thus it is an important social issue that how to improve the quality of disabled elders’ lives in the countryside.Through the description of the rural disabled elders’ situation, this paper presents the comparison between rural disabled elders’ living situation and their quality of lives, then address the rural disabled elders’ problem’s solution, which is the improvement of rural community health care and the installation of rural nursing home infrastructure through the combined effort of government, families and market.Starting with the background and meaning of the research subject, this paper has summarized the current research achievement, then redefined the concept of “rural disabled elder family nursing” and “rural disabled elder social nursing”, and try to make innovations though this. Using the theory of QOL, taking Xinhua hunan has an example and doing social research through questionnaire survey and personal interview, the current live situation of Chinese rural disabled elders has been described in detail. By comparing the QOL between the family nursing disabled elders and social nursing ones, we try to find the way to alleviate the poor QOL situation. Then basing on the current situation and result comparison, we give corresponding suggestion under the guide of the public production supply theory.It is discovered from the research that the social nursing disabled elders’ QOL is better than the family nursing ones’. It is because rural labor has been transmitting through city and countryside since the reform and opening-up of China, which causes the number of “empty family” and “left-behind senior” increase greatly, and the elder-nursing function of families are rapidly degenerated. In these elder’s social nursing organizations, these disabled elders can get special care from certain people, whom are more professional in health care domain. Meanwhile seniors can adapt the environment easily and have less loneliness in these elder’s social nursing organizations. The writer’s opinion is that we should base on the experience of elder caring in developed countries and Chinese cities. By holding the principal of “basing on family elder nursing, depending on community elder nursing and taking social nursing as a important complement” and “guide by government, participate by society”, we can find out the socialized manage method and build the better social security system for rural disabled elders.
