Research On Construction Project Manager’s Interpersonal Relational Competences Based On Construction Supply Chain Perspective

The construction project manager( Hereinafter referred to as project manager)commissioned and authorized by the contractor and engaged in the organization and management of the project is not only the highest responsible for project implementation,but also is the person in charge of the market and owners. Under the background of construction supply chain,due to the project manager responsibility and authority conferred by the post office, so in the whole construction process, the project manager need to coordinate the relationship between the various stakeholders of the construction supply chain, and is in the central location of the construction supply chain networks. In China,informal relationships are often more important than formal membership. Interpersonal relational competences as the integral parts of handling interpersonal interaction and obtaining benefits from resources are the important dynamic factors in the system of social capital theory. With the arrival of knowledge economy, flexible organizational structure has been widely adopted and there are some changes in building internal and external environment. In this context, the nterpersonal relational competences of the project manager as “soft capacity” play an important role in project management more and more. However, the research of interpersonal relational competences is still relatively backward at present, and the research of the project manager’s interpersonal relational competences is almost blank.Firstly, based on the perspective of the construction supply chain, the thesis analyzed the characteristics of the project manager interpersonal relational network and Chinese cultural background, then builded the structure model of the project manager’s interpersonal relational competences. The model consists of the competence to build instrumental interpersonal relations、competence to develop emotional interpersonal relations and competence to process interpersonal relations conflicts. And it developed an initial questionnaire of interpersonal relational competences of the project manager through the method of literature analysis, in-depth interviews, expert opinions. On this basis, the thesis established a hypothetical model between project manager interpersonal relational competences and project performance. Nextly, questionnaires were collected in the project manager for the survey, and were made to do pre-testing and formal testing. The pre-test was mainly for exploratory factor analysis, and the result was project manager interpersonal relational competences scale which consists of 15 items. Formal testing was carried out on the structure validity and criterion validity test of the scale. The analysis results showed that the scale has good structure validity. Lastly, in this thesis, the interpersonal relational competences of project manager and the project performance has been carried on the empirical research. The results showed that the interpersonal relational competences of the project manager and project performance has a positive correlation.From what has been discussed above, based on the perspective of the construction supply chain, the thesis builded the structure model of the project manager’s interpersonal relational competences, and developed a scale of the project manager’s interpersonal relational competences which contains of 15 items. This thesis not only makes up for the defects of project manager’s interpersonal relational competences evaluation previously, but also provides theoretical support and practical guidance about the selection and training of the project manager.
