With speedy development of information technology and rapid popularization of modern project management, more requirements are put on management of software R & D project, so further improving management level of software R & D project has become an urgent requirement for project manager. During management of software R & D project, communication is a soft index whose effect cannot be measured and whose influence on the project is always invisible. Effective communication can improve development of the project and improvement of the interpersonal relationship, and all management activities of software R & D project are carried out by means of communication, so research on communication theory of software R & D project can improve project management level and promote project’s goals accomplishment.At present, research on weak matrix software R & D project is not so deep and many blanks exist. This paper is aimed at the exploratory research on communication of weak matrix software R & D project. Firstly, this paper gives relatively accurate definition for communication and weak matrix software R & D project communication and other relative concepts, summarizes communication management characteristics of weak matrix software R & D project and concludes communication modes of the project. Then, the paper summarizes obstacles existing in communication of weak matrix software R & D project. According to different forming reasons, these communication obstacles can be divided into three classifications:organization obstacles, member obstacles and information obstacles. Reason for forming organization obstacles can be either non-accordance with unified leadership principle or lack of team communication atmosphere and system. Reason for forming member obstacles can be either characteristics of the R & D personnel or different knowledge, capabilities, responsibilities and specialties of team members. Reason for forming information obstacles is that the information is true or not. At last, the paper puts forward a set of communication management system applicable for weak matrix software R & D project at different phases. At the beginning of the project, key points of communication management include project manager carrying on active upward communication, identifying key project stakeholders; strengthening the creation of communication atmosphere to promote effective process of communication; using all-channel communication to give full play to creativity of the team; choosing effective solutions to solve conflicts; strengthening discrimination between true and false information to obtain valuable information effectively. During implementation of the project, key points of communication management include completing project performance report; building unified information distribution channels; obeying the principle of earlier communication and active communication; providing appropriate team training. At the end of the project, key points of communication management include making team members realize the importance of files and building an appropriate file management system; strengthening the communication with assessment center, preparing for new products distribution and popularizing the products.These achievements have been used and verified well during the actual communication management of software R & D project and are believed to have some instruction and reference effects for other R & D projects.
