The project manager is the core of project department management of one construction enterprises, whose performance largely determines the performance of the project department. Therefore, so much attention should be paid to project manager’s performance appraisal. But considering the current practice, construction enterprises are still not so meticulous in aspect of the project manager performance evaluation, and need further improvement. Based on such background, the study was done on the project manager performance evaluation of construction enterprises.Combining with the case of project manager performance evaluation about China railway construction group, this paper mainly involves the research in three aspects: the design of project manager performance evaluation index system, the application of grey evaluation model in performance evaluation and performance improvements based on performance evaluation results.In the building of index system of performance appraisal, firstly analyzing the present situation and existing problems in China railway construction group, then proposing the basic principles and ideas about the election and determination of index, lastly index system is built that include the project manager’s performance index, character index and behavior index. Then use the analytic hierarchy process, respectively, to determine the weight of each index of first-level and secondary, and the comprehensive weight of each secondary index.In the performance evaluation methods, grey evaluation model is applied. Firstly divide the performance of construction enterprise project manager into the "excellent ", "good", " medium " and " poor" four levels, then build the whitenization weight functions of the corresponding performance level, and combine with the comprehensive weights previously determined, the research is conducted in the project manager performance evaluation with the objects of six projects department randomly selected from the China railway construction group. To make the performance evaluation scheme specially designed for China railway group to be used more widely, four suggestions on improvement of the evaluation scheme are put forward.In terms of performance improvements, based on the results of performance evaluation, performance improvements including three aspects are proposed. And, for the effects of performance improvements, assurance measures are discussed from the adjustment of position and salary of project manager.
