Analysis On Cause Of Prosperity Of Wine Industry Of Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the largest among the top ten regions of wine production in France. 95% of wine produced here are ranked as AOC. It is famous for its prosperous wine commerce, which contributes to almost 15% of France’s foreign trade surplus. The wine industry in Bordeaux almost seems to have become the symbol of the city of Bordeaux, and may even be said to represent the image of all wine produced in France.In this thesis, the development of wine industry in Bordeaux is divided into three major phases: 1. Its origin and early development; 2. Its gradual decline and “revival”; 3.Diversified development in the modern age. By analyzing the patterns of development of wine industry in Bordeaux, and their major influential factors through the three periods, the thesis explains the reason behind the prosperity of Bordeaux’s wine industry while also taking into consideration not only of the city’s geographical, climatic, environmental peculiarity, but also of aspects such as its local conceptions of making wine and the “Terroir”current in Bordeaux’s wine industry.
