Study On The Development Of Peri-urban Modernistic Agriculture In Tongzhou District Of Beijing

Facing the serious situation of resource limitation, air pollution, and ecological environmentbreakage, ecological civilization construction is getting more and more important.China is a large developing agricultural nation, and the dream of “Beautiful China” cannot be realizedwithout the modernization of agricultural and rural sector. Peri-urban modernistic agriculture couldimprove the ecological environment on the basis of economic development, and it is able to find asustainable way of development for the entire nation.This thesis takes the Status and the tendency of the development of peri-urban modernisticagriculture in Tongzhou district as the research object, also with the analysis of the definition,connotation and feature of peri-urban modernistic agriculture. Tongzhou has made a great agriculturalprogress due to the regional advantages and the Focusing on Tongzhou—Sub-Center of Beijing strategy.However, there are several issues during the agricultural construction, including the limitation of thedevelopment space, the adjustment of the overall arrangement, and the construction of agriculturesupport system with science and technology.According to SWOT analysis of peri-urban modernistic agriculture in Tongzhou district, I foundthe strengths including: district advantage, transportation advantage, raise of agrotechny and leisureagriculture, profound history and abundant resources of agricultural and rural culture, strengths of scalemanagement condition and modern science and technology, and the finance supporting of regionaleconomy; the weaknesses including: the lack of comprehensive supporting policy, natural resourcesshortage, human talent shortage, low level of the industrialization development, and the lack ofcharacteristic agriculture; opportunities including: the new pattern of urban and rural development, theconstruction of “Three Beijing” and world city, the construction of “international new city” and“Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Metropolitan Region”, the new round construction of the “VegetableBasket Project”, and the comprehensive treatment of North Canal; and the threats including: farmingconcept, the space narrowing of agricultural economy development, the increasing constraints ofresource and environment, the fierce competition of agrotourism, and the subsequent influences ofglobal financial crisis.According to Modern Urban Agriculture Development Program of Tongzhou District (2011—2015)，this thesis also gives several suggestions according to the analysis result and the issues during thedevelopment of peri-urban modernistic agriculture in Tongzhou district. They are: to reschedule thepriority in agriculture development, and to focus on seed agriculture, facility agriculture, leisureagriculture, processing agriculture and ecological agriculture; to optimize the distribution of theecological space; to enhance the construction of supporting system; to strengthen the innovation ofmechanism and system; to perfect the supporting measures; to boost the standard of agricultural scaleand modernization, etc. I hope this thesis could provide reference during the development process ofperi-urban modernistic agriculture in Tongzhou district.
