New product development (NPD) alternatives selection in a new product development environment has been one of the most critical issues for many companies which try to survive in the fast-growing world markets. In many new product development alternatives selection problems, it not only needs to consider the evaluation of alternatives and attribute weights, but also consider the aspiration requirements on attributes given by decision makers. Therefore, the research on how to solve new product development alternatives selection problem considering attributes aspiration has high research value and academically significance. On the basis of a comprehensive review of relative methods for selecting new product development alternatives at home and abroad, the thesis makes thorough research on new product development alternatives selection problem considering attribute aspiration. The purpose and significance of the research are as follows:In the theory aspect, new product development alternatives selection methods considering attribute aspiration are proposed, to enrich and improve the research of new product development alternatives selection methods. In the practical aspect, testers for very large-scale integrated circuits and PDA selection problems are taken as numerical examples to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the proposed methods. It has great guidance and reference significance to other new product development alternatives selection problem. The thesis has mainly finished the following works:(1) Then, the relative concepts and mathematical descriptions of solving new product development alternatives selection problem considering competing product alternatives and the problem considering the partial dependent attributes aspiration are given. It provides a theoretical basis on the expansion and application of the research questions.(2) An approach for selecting new product development alternatives considering competing product alternatives is proposed. To select the most desirable alternative from the available set of new product development alternatives, a decision-making analysis approach based on aspiration achieving level is proposed. In the approach, the prospect reference point is determined by considering the evaluation of competing product alternatives. Then, the aspiration utility function and weight function are given. Further, aspiration achieving levels of new product development alternatives and competing product alternatives are calculated and compared, and the most desirable new product development alternative is selected.(3) An approach for selecting new product development alternatives considering the partial dependent attributes aspiration is proposed. With regard to new product development alternatives selection problems where the attribute values of the alternatives are crisp numbers, interval numbers and linguistic terms, a method based on aspiration achieving level and hybrid relative closeness coefficient is proposed. Firstly, the aspiration utility functions for dependent attributes aspiration are given, and aspiration achieving levels of new product development alternatives are calculated. Then, hybrid relative closeness coefficients are calculated by hybrid TOPSIS method. Further, the comprehensive values of alternatives are calculated by hybrid relative closeness coefficients and aspiration achieving levels. Finally, the most desirable new product development alternative is selected.(4) Testers for very large-scale integrated circuits and PDA selection problems are taken as pratical examples to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the proposed methods. In the end, the main research results, conclusions, contributions, limitations and requiring work for further research are summarized.
