As the global shipbuilding industry gradually regains its strength, the orders of domestic and foreign shipyards are continuously growing and obviously, their needs are increasingly diversified. In response to this situation, enterprises are required to achieve product diversification. In the meantime, due to the presence of diversified customer needs and economics of scale in production and distribution, a conflict between mass production and customization exists. The pull-supply chain model adopted by most enterprises in the shipbuilding industry responds to the rapidly changing market in an increasingly slow and passive manner. It is in this context that W Company desperately needs to explore a new mode of supply chain management so as to gain more space for development.Under the research background of postponement manufacturing theory, the concepts of postponement manufacturing and economic production quantity (EPQ) are first introduced, and EPQ model-based total average cost calculation method and supply chain operation mode are reviewed. Then, in order to have a comprehensive analysis of W Company and its industry, production business processes, supply chain management statuses as well as the existing problems are primarily studied. According to postpone manufacturing strategy-based EPQ model, combined with the characteristics and data of W Company, the total average production cost calculation model is established. Methods of mathematical statistics and assumptions are used to demonstrate the conclusion that for some models in W Company, postponement manufacturing strategy will save more cost than non-postponement manufacturing strategy. Next, the effects after the implementation of postponement manufacturing strategy-based supply chain optimization solution are discussed and the effectiveness of implementation of postponement manufacturing strategy is reflected from the perspectives of product prediction accuracy, supply chain risk management and cost control. Finally, the research results are summarized and analyzed, and appropriate suggestions are proposed.
