In order to help the developing countries overcome the hurdles and restrictions of trade,Hong Kong MC6declaration proposed the aid for trade system. The purpose of aid for tradesystem is to expand the scale of trade, improve the trade liberalization and facilitate thedevelopment of the countries via trading activities and reduce poverty. The necessity of theexistence of aid for trade system has been proved on both theoretical and practical basis. Theflaws encountered during the process of the practice of aid for trade implied the importanceof establishing aid for trade system in the WTO system and revising the current proposals. The contributors and beneficiaries should work together on all aspects and establish the aidfor trade institutions which are supposed to focus on the effectiveness on practical level. Dueto the existing flaws of the supervising system of aid for trade system, a new supervisingmechanism is supposed to be established in WTO system. As the largest developing country, China has become a significant member in the globaleconomy nowadays, and it has to participate in the aid for trade activities more actively andgradually transform its role from the beneficiary to the contributor in order to play a betterrole in the international community. But the identity of the “emerging economic entity”puts China in a restricted situation in the aid for trade system. The thesis is meant to analyzethe opportunities and challenges that China is facing in the aid for trade activities and comeup with solutions in order to facilitate the aid for trade activities, based on the comparableanalysis of the participation status of the U.S.A., EU, Japan and China.
