Reliability is an important index to evaluate vehicles, engines and components in automotive industry, a general performance for quality management level and also the base for the product acceptance from customer. Currently failure rate is a figure which attracts all players’ attention in this industry, meanwhile, it is also an important figure for OEM and engine manufacturers to evaluate quality performance of supplier. Reason why people pay more and more attention to failure rate is to pursue reliability of products. Reliability has an important effects on reputation and cost of enterprise, and it is a decisive factor for development prospect of an enterprise.Crankshaft, connecting rod and piston construct "heart" of engine, the "heart" transfer the explosion pressure to piston straight movement firstly, then transfer to crankshaft rotating movement through crank and con-rod structure to output torque, the rear end of crankshaft will drive powertrain system, the front end of crankshaft will drive auxiliary system, such as timing system, cooling system, etc...It shows that crankshaft is a pretty critical component in engine work from above sentences. In the meantime, crankshaft reliability is more challenging because of complicated force situation, terrible working condition and so on.TR company is the largest professional crankshaft manufacturer in China whose product category covers passenger car, commercial vehicle and marine use crankshaft. Tianrun is focusing on reliability improving continuously to build a national automotive component brand. The object of study in this essay is heavy duty engine crankshaft reliability in TR company, conduct statistical analysis for failure mode in Market, inspect and analyze failed components to find out quality issues of failed crankshafts, define elements which influence crankshaft reliability, decompose and define product quality feature and manufacturing process, to find out and solve problems based on elements which influence product quality in the process and problems in quality management, to analyze and solve problems, more importantly, to build a method for quality management and improving quality management system, to make sure all elements which effect product quality in manufacturing under control and finally ensure crankshaft reliability.
