While the establishment of China’s market economic system and continuous development, some traditional agricultural development models could not meet the need of China’s economic reform and accelerate the pace of agricultural development, and they are confronting with disintegration. However, the kind of specialized farmers cooperatives (hereinafter referred to as SFC) that aim to maximize the farmers’interests have not been grown up accordingly in such a complicated market environment, which are strongly influenced by politics, economy, culture, values and other factors. In term of how SFC gradually integrates with the market, the concepts of marketization, intensification specialization and sustainability have become the important topics to research.This article consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction, which introduces the background, value of innovation and insufficient previous research, and the current status of research on SFC. The second part is the theoretical basis. It states the history, function and value of SFC, and explains the theories of economic and institutional change, industrial smiling curve and the growth curve of agricultural value chain. The third part is focusing on the analysis of the development of China’s SFC, which includes:gathering the data and analyzing the current status, operating system and performance of existing SFC, assessing the effectiveness of China’s three operating SFC modes, and discussing the problems and reasons within the market-oriented development. The forth part mainly discusses the experience and reference of the development of foreign farmers cooperatives, and choosing the operating modes in the United States, Japan and Netherlands as the typical ones to introduce, analyze and evaluate to improve the development of China’s SFC. The last part is exploring countermeasures and strategy to drive the market-oriented development of SPC forward. According to the analysis and evaluation of problems and challenges above, this part presents the related strategies adapting the marketization of SPC based on the reference of operating patterns in the U. S, Japan and Netherlands.
