Thesis addresses to the most important task in the area of Russia’s foreign trade, which is strengthening and expanding economic relations with the countries of the world, taking into account national economic interests. Russia’s economic interests in its relations with China, as revealed by analysis of the structure of their mutual trade, include:reduction of the share of primary processing goods in Russia’s exports to China; increase of the share of machinery and equipment, production of high-tech industries in non-primary, and in total exports; reducing dependence on food imports. Factors affecting the trade between Russia and China were analyzed, and used for constructing a model of bilateral trade between Russia and China. The analysis has shown that the greatest influence on the volume of Russian-Chinese trade has price of Russian oil. On the basis of the constructed model and the analysis of the future development of China’s economy there are described scenarios for the development of foreign trade cooperation between Russia and China in the medium term. Future development of trade relations between the countries fits into a few optimistic and pessimistic scenarios. Both China’s economic growth and slowdown of China’s economic may have a dual impact on the development of its trade relations with Russia. The optimal scenario for Russia, able to meet the whole complex of its economic interests, is the comprehensive deepening of Russian-Chinese cooperation, transition, primarily on the basis of achieving spiritual understanding, a breakthrough in international economic and social ties, to the model of real co-development of the two countries.
