From the professional point of view,project manager refers to the important management positions the enterprises establish to guarantee the project quality, safety,schedule, cost management and improve overall project management level. The core is project manager responsibility system.The capacity and quality of project manager determine the quality level of enterprise’s projects.Project manager is the leader in the project team, whose first duty is to lead the project team to complete all project work and make customer satisfied on time and on budget. So it is very important to choose the right project manager for implementation of the enterprise’s project.When modern enterprise selects project manager, they consider not only whether the project manager can meet the project goal, but also whether the performance is better.Therefore,the enterprises need to consider both the project manager’s own competencies and the characteristics of the project in the process of selection of project manager. Only like this, the project manager perfectly adapts tothe project.This paper firstly showed the related concepts of the project manager, to make us have a more clear understanding of general requirements of the project manager.Then we make a literal review of general competenciesthe project managers needed and competency models, to determine competency characteristics the general project manager required.Next we simply introduced the whole company and the project, and put forward the corresponding requirements on the project manager based on the characteristics of the company and project.Combining literal content and requirements of the project, we correspondinglymodified the feature library of the project manager’s competency YongheYu and his partners have studied on the basis of the uniqueness of the company and the project, to set up the feature library of the project manager’s competency adapting to this project. We built complete competency model by applying the method of superiority chart to finish the weight distribution of competency characteristic library.Then the competency model was applied to the selection of the project manager.Finally, this paper illustrated the problems and the vision of the future as a summary.
