Land is non renewable resource, it is not only the basic substance sustaining of humans for survival and development, but also the premise of the social economic development. However, with the development of economy, the increase of population, the growing of industrialization and urbanization, the demand of land resource is increasing day by day, the contradiction between human and land is also increasing dramatically. Especially a large number of cultivated land resources are occupied by construction, so that the national target of 1.8 billion mu cultivated land could be maintained very difficult.Transportation is the artery of national economy, it is one of the foundation of the national economic construction, in recent years, with China’s sustained and rapid economic development, road construction has made considerable progress, especially the development of the expressway is described the word "unprecedented". The safe and efficient expressway can promote the rapid development of social economy along the height of the expressway construction project. However, the characteristics: long mileage building, large area, large mounts of cultivated land which contains a lot of high-quality arable land and other land resources of expressway make the contradiction between the land occupies of the expressway and the scarcity of land resources, especially the contradiction between expressway occupies and the high quality farmland protection become increasingly prominent.In the feasibility study stage of expressway project currently, the capacity, economic, geological terrain, traffic safety and other factors are mainly considered when the expressway project line is selected and studied in order to ensure the good service function of the expressway, but the study of the intensive use of land is not in-depth at present. Through the study on the theory and evaluation methods of the economical and intensive land use of the expressway, establishing a practical evaluation system of expressway to evaluate and predict the economical and intensive land use levels of numbers of alternatives expressway project in the construction feasibility study stage of expressway, which can provide theory and method support for the evaluation and prediction work of expressway economical and intensive land use.Based on the results of analysis and summary of the domestic and foreign scholars’ research on economical and intense land use of expressway construction, the paper defined the concept and connotation of economical and intense land use of expressway, did research on economical and intense land use of expressway and established a new evaluation system based on economic supply theory, theory of land scarcity, the theory of diminishing returns of land and the intensive use of land. The paper selected the economical and intensive land use of expressway evaluation indexes using literature research method and Delphi method in combination with the index accessibility, determined the index weight by the combination of AHP and variation coefficient method, then did data standardization by the extreme value method of standardization and weighted sum levels of the kinds of economical and intensive land use; used Yusang’s line: Suide to Yanchuan as an empirical study, evaluate and analyze the economical and intensive land use levels of the multi line selection scheme selection during the feasibility study stage of the expressway project; Finally, raised proposals to improve expressway land use economical and intensive level.
