The Industrial Revolution has long been the focus of historical studies. And in recent years, the international historians are more into work on research of the nature of the industrial revolution, such as effects oftextile and metallurgical industry on it. Coal industry came into being form about the late sixteenth century is one of the oldest industrial sectors in coal-rich Kingdom the UK, it has already had a history of over 400 years. This paper attempts to discuss the British coal industry and its promotion to the industrial revolution and the British national power from the perspective of industrial development.There are a lot of research projects for the history of modern British coal industry and economic development, and many related books and dissertation published at home and abroad. Most of them are focused on the research of economic effects, not to systematical describe the background and development of the British coal industry itself during the eighteenth Century to twentieth Century. This paper trying to discuss the rise of British coal industry and its characteristics in more detail and systematic.Observing British Industrial Revolution from perspective of coal industry and have a comprehensive understanding of British coal industry development during this period.
