In today’s era of low-carbon economy,with the enhancement of environmental awareness among consumers, more and more enterprise competition is instead by green competition. Since entering 21 st century, with the rapid development of Chinese economy, our environmental problems are getting worse, so they attract widely attention in the community. In today’s "resource-saving and environment-friendly" two-oriented society, how to enhance the competitive advantage of small and micro enterprises(SMEs) is not only the focus of attention for corporate managers, but also attract many scholars to study. As a container of employment, SMEs will want to gain competitive advantage in the fierce competitive market, and achieve sustainable development, then it is the ultimate choice of green innovation for SMEs.In related literature review of green innovation and competitive advantage, we find that have many existing literatures for green innovation and competitive advantage, but few scholars mentioned the function of social capital, so this paper will study the relationship between SMEs green innovation and competitive advantage from the perspective of social capital, with the help of green innovation theory, social capital theory and competitive advantage theory to analyze the interaction mechanism among the green innovation, social capital, competitive advantage, provides important resources channels as SMEs implement green innovation, then we will try to answer the following four questions through empirical study:(1) Are enterprises implement green innovation to enhance its competitive advantage?(2) Are enterprises implement green innovation to accumulate its social capital?(3) Are enterprises accumulate some social capital to enhance its competitive advantage?(4) How do they enhance its competitive advantage for green innovation or social capital, so as to jointly promote the sustainable development of enterprises.In view of this, the first, on the basis of reading many literatures about home and abroad, the theoretical foundation, the related literatures and the relationship between the variables are sorted out, then the theoretical model is built the relationship among green innovation, social capital and competitive advantage, along with the logic of "green innovation to social capital to competitive advantage", this paper takes 124 SMEs of Xinjiang for instance, on the basis of a questionnaire survey, then use SPSS20.0 statistical software to analyze SMEs green innovations through the mediating variables influence social capital for SMEs competitive advantage resulting theoretical and empirical research to explore the impact and effect relationship among them. Through the proposed research hypotheses, this paper obtains the following conclusions:(1) SMEs green innovation has a significant positive influence on competitive advantage, but the different dimensions of green innovation have different influence on competitive advantage, proactive green innovation has a significant positive influence on competitive advantage, reactivity green innovation don’t has a significant positive influence on competitive advantage;(2) SMEs social capital has a significant positive influence on competitive advantage, and the different dimensions of social capital have significant positive influence on competitive advantage;(3) SMEs green innovation has a significant positive influence on social capital, but the different dimensions of green innovation have different influence on the different dimensions of social capital, proactive green innovation has a significant positive influence on lateral social capital and vertical social capital, reactivity green innovation don’t has a significant positive influence on lateral social capital or vertical social capital;(4) social capital plays an intermediary role in the connection between SMEs green innovation and competitive advantage. Finally, according to the conclusions of article, this research puts forward two aspects of relevant management strategies for the sustainable development of SMEs:(1) from the four perspective of enterprise, government, research institutions, financial institutions,encourage enterprises to take actively involved in green innovation;(2) from the two perspective of enterprise, government,take corresponding measures to accumulate social capital of enterprise.And also points out some limitations of this article, these may have a certain impact on the conclusion of the paper,so these give the direction for future research.
