The sown area and yield of corn has become the largest crop of three major crops in China. The corn has a widespread and it can be used as feed, the raw material in processing industry, biomass energy. It has a very important position on the development of national economy maintained to protect our country’s food security. With the increasing demand for corn, our country has been transformed from a major exporter of corn into a net importer of corn. In the limited land resources, and under the saturation trends of inputs, the most effective measures to improve the corn yield are to increase total factor productivity of maize. However, China’s corn production continues to increase, yields of maize with the world’s advanced countries, there are still large gaps, and there are also gaps between the provincial domains. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the premise of the status quo of China’s corn production, and analyze the changes in total factor productivity of maize, further analyze the influence factors and the extent of the role of TFP. This has a great significance for improve the yield of corn. The contents of this paper are divided into five parts, the main content of every part as followed:The first part includes chapters 1 and 2. This section describes the background and significance of the study, the research content and methods as well as the overall framework of the article, collate relevant economic theory and literature abroad. The second part is Chapter 3. This section analyzes the current status quo of China’s corn production. From two angles of outputs and inputs, including the production of corn acreage, and other aspects of factor inputs, this section respectively analyzes the differences and changes in the overall field of corn between provinces, in-depth understanding of the status quo of China’s corn production. The third part is Chapters 4. This section estimates China’s corn TFP and decomposition of technical efficiency, technological progress and scale efficiency change from 1993 to 2012 using DEA-Malmquist index method and SFA method. It systematically analyzes the growth status of the corn TFP from two angles of time and area. It is turns out that the corn TFP grew slowly, contributed a little to output. There is still a great space to improve TFP.The fourth part is Chapters 5. On this basis of Chapters 4, this part analyzes the factors that affect corn TFP and use panel data model to make an empirical analysis of a number of factors. The fifth part is Chapter 6. It summarizes the main content of the text and proposes policy recommendations to promote and increase the productivity of maize.
