Preventive maintenance for equipment (products) in a production system as an important approach to reduce the number of equipment failure, control enterprise cost and guarantee enterprise orderly production, has vital importance in the increasingly competitive market environment, allowing not to be ignored. From the perspective of consumers to think about how to develop a reasonable preventive maintenance policy to minimize the maintenance costs, it has its importantly practical significance. This article based on considering whether consumers should implement preventive maintenance under warranty executes contradiction or not, assumes two kinds of different preventive maintenance strategy. What’s more, we analysis the two ways based on the expression of total cost of the two strategies. Finally actual examples verified research results in this article. This paper studies how to formulate preventative maintenance strategies of the purchased equipments for the users. In conditions of the equipment failure rates subjecting to the Weibull distribution, the effect of preventative maintenance gradually decreasing and introducing reliability constraint in the theory of equivalent age, this paper creates a model comprising user maintenance, total maintenance cost, and proposes a solution combined with the branch and bound method. Whether it should implement preventative maintenance during the warranty period or not, this paper proposes two preventive maintenance strategies in the users’ perspective. Besides, comparing the two strategies to target the lowest total cost of ownership, this paper finally suggests a simply optimal strategy. This paper illustrates the effect of various parameters on the optimal policy choices combined with examples, and explains the real meanings of the parameters corresponded to when changing.Through this study found, repairable products under free repair warranty, the total cost of the user began to carry out periodic preventive maintenance after the product warranty period lower than the total cost of the product will be available from the beginning of the cycle prevention maintenance. This conclusion can guide the user to develop a more rational strategy of preventive maintenance, maintain the product into appropriate, reduce the frequency of product failure and associated costs related to product failure, so that the products can play a greater effectiveness, and to prevent products from excessive maintenance to avoid the occurrence of such waste.
