Chinese advertising has a long history, which contains a profound traditional Chinese cultural thoughts. As a very important part of it, medical advertisement, directly reflects the development of China’s commodity economy and culture. It is helpful to understand the political, economic, cultural, medical, ethical and moral conditions by combing the development and evolution of Chinese ancient medical advertising and the characteristics of the times. The research on traditional Chinese medicine advertisements form will provide an unique perspective for the study of the spatial communication mode of medical advertising, and make up the blank of traditional medicine advertising history and the characteristics of folk economy research. The research on the development of Chinese medical advertisements is helpful to study the traditional Chinese medicine advertising culture and enrich the concept of modern medical advertising communication. The paper takes ancient China as the center, which reviews and reflects on the history of medical advertisements. First of all, this paper sorts out and discusses the meaning and origin of advertisement, and introduces the related concepts and business behavior of advertisement; then, from the expression form of advertisement, this paper describes Chinese ancient medical advertising in different period, which mainly discusses the historical evolution and main types of ancient medical advertisement, from the pre Qin period to the Opium War, it is divided into four stages:the embryonic stage, the initial development, the flourishing development and the mature development, it is divided into three main forms, including the nature of t he city customs, the nature of literature and art, and the nature of public welfare, and each of these forms has different subtypes; finally, this paper finds out the characteristics and functions of Chinese ancient medical advertisement, it is the result of the comprehensive function of many factors, such as political power, commodity economy, cultural tradition, medical level and so on. In this paper, we hope to seek wisdom from ancient medical advertising, combined with the background of the times, to analyze the cultural connotation, and to provide a useful reference for the development of modern medical advertising.
