China has been the biggest exporter of wooden furniture since 2005, however, with its advantage mainly based on its relatively low-cost labor and rich resources endowment, the majority of China’s wooden furniture was of low quality and low value-added. Combined with other emerging threats such as restriction on logging and expanding trade conflicts, the export of China’s wooden furniture is no doubt facing sever challenges. This paper aimed to explore the impact of furniture quality on its export growth, therefor examining the possibility of achieving sustainable development.Firstly, this paper analyzed the export quantity, total amount, average price and major markets of China’s wooden furniture, finding that although all the indicators were rising steadily, the growth rate fell in general and the market concentration was unhealthily high. After that this paper analyzed the competitiveness of China’s wooden furniture and its contribution to its export, the result suggested that China’s wooded furniture boasted fairly high competitiveness but its contribution to export growth was disproportionately small. Then the export technical sophistication of China’s wooden furniture was measured to represent quality, and it’s noted that the quality of China’s wooden furniture generally remained at the same level with the relative value demonstrated a small scale increase after 2008. Finally, an gravity model was established to confirm that the quality of wooden furniture did have positive impact on its export and international competitiveness. In the end responding solutions were put forward to better boost the sustainable development of China’s wooden furniture export.
