Study On The Evolution Path And Mechanisms Of Guangxi Sugarcane Industry

The development of local industry faces great difficulty. Especially in the context of rising labor costs, resource shortage and environmental deterioration, local industry prospect is even dimmer. With the development of globalization, local industry is being embedded in global value chain, and it has dual nature in local as well as global. However, there are some serious problems, such as the sharp rise in cost, prices at home higher than abroad, and prices hung upside down. Guangxi’s cane sugar industry is a characteristic industry, and bear the burden of the supply of Chinese sugar. However, the evolution of Guangxi’s cane sugar industry does’t match it’s important place. The development of Guangxi’ s cane sugar industry, for a long time, could not get rid of the notion that development depends on resources, and as a result, most sugar businesses in weak competitive positions in Guangxi face many new challenges after market opening. If keeping this up, sugar enterprises will be under fierce attack. So it is necessaries to further study this topic and find the problems the influence factors.The thesis thoroughly studies evolution path and the mechanisms of action of Guangxi’s cane sugar industry, containing three sections.The first part is the basic of evolutionary economics. Through the literature review first, some general theorems of evolutionary economics are combed, as well as its concept and main characteristics. And on this basis, this part raises basic questions in evolutionary economics, including path dependence theory, industry evolution process and influencing factors and analysis pattern of evolution. The analysis pattern of industry evolution is explored according to the logic of evolution route-factors-analysis.The second part structures the main content of the paper. Firstly, this part reviews the history of development of Guangxi’s cane sugar industry, and analyzes the present problems. Secondly, it describes the evolution path of Guangxi’s cane sugar industry with the method of patent map, and points out existing problems. Next, this part carried on empirical analysis both on influence factors and developing efficiency in Guangxi’s cane sugar industry. It found that the input of labor and capital plays good role in production efficiency, capital is the main drive for evolution,as well as the human resource. Technical reform in part sections can’t adjust to the challenge from the the international sugar market, technical efficiency is falling. Production costs and institutional factors have an important effect on the development of Guangxi’s cane sugar industry.This paper put forward the suggestion and research prospects in part three. The part gives some new conceives about the evolution path in Guangxi’s cane sugar industry, aimed at resolving the problems during the progress in evolution of cane sugar industry in Guangxi. Finally the thesis put forward research prospects from the views both on the implementation of the industry evolution strategy and techno-economic studies.
