Research On Settlement Intention Of The New-generation Of Migrant Works

Since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy in 1980s, our country’s economy has been rapidly developed, making the progress of urbanization and industrialization also has a fast pace. Urbanization as an objective trend of development of human society, which in the past 37 years, experienced a low starting point, rapid development of the transformation process. From international development experience, settlement and migration behaviors of the labor force generally occur synchronously. However, as the largest developing country in the world, our country’s agricultural transfer of population in the process of migration to the cities, experienced a special development path, namely the transferring agricultural people engage in non-agricultural activities in the city, but their identities are still not changed, failing to become urban residents.These migrant workers has been the subject of our country’s industrial workers and played a great role in the formulation of economic development strategy. In recent years, as the young migrant workers growing up, the new generation of migrant workers has gradually become an important component of the migration of labor. But the "semi-urban" state of their identities, becomes a binary contradiction in the urbanization process urgent to be resolved. The next generation of migrant workers choosing the future settling places, not only consider how to achieve citizenship, also including where to realize urbanization. The research on how to guide the different circumstances of the new generation of migrant workers in a desirable place to settle down, seems relatively significant. Above serves as the motivation of this article. The following we present the main structure. With the survey of Anhui new generation of migrant workers in hand, we mainly focus on three aspects to consider:First, do the new generation of migrant workers prefer to work in the city, or choose other places? Second, which factors affect their willingness to settle? Third, what measures should be taken to help the new generation of migrant workers settle down in desirable cities? Through these three aspects’specific studies, we can providing some reference for the country to formulate policies on the problem of settlement intentions of the new generation of migrant workers.Now we show the outline and our main conclusions. First, we will make clear of the related concepts, for example, which groups belong to the new generation of migrant workers? And what on earth is the settlement intention? Then based on the related theory and summing-up relevant literature at home and abroad, we analysis and propose our theoretical framework and research design, and conclude the factors affecting the generation of migrant workers’settlement intention:demographic characteristics, family characteristics, socio-economic characteristics, features of origin, destination fusion characteristics, self-awareness feature. Second, during the Chinese New Year, we have gone deep into several towns and rural areas for questionnaires and one to one interviews. After data collection, we build descriptive statistics and multivariate Logit regression model, with the help of statistical software Eiews6.0 and excel tool, to study the new generation settlement intention of migrant workers and its influencing factors.To be specific, we first observe the basic characteristics of the sample for better understanding the overall trend of the new generation of migrant workers’settlement intention. And then make further statistical analysis, by cross-tabulation, on different individual characteristics of them, to explore the impact of their internal different characteristics on settlement intention. We use all the factors that passed correlation tests in the table of interaction classification to construct Logit regression equation, then make analysis to examine the various factors on the degree of influence of the migration intentions. It is inferred that the factors that gender, educational level, per capita arable land, working years, the monthly income level, whether there is local friends, the accommodation of working place, whom turn to for assistance when difficult, whether in residents’ committees, whether in democratic management, origin and identity recognition, significantly affect the settlement intention of the new generation of migrant workers. Then for those of new generation of migrant workers that are willing to settle down in the city and town, we discuss a number of specific policies.Finally, we draw the conclusion that we should respect their multiple-choices, protect those of them worked in the city to enjoy basic public services, improve the living environment of them, strengthen their vocational education, enhance their human capital, make overall plans on the country’s industrial transformation, increase employment opportunities for small and medium cities, develop vigorously modern agriculture, increase farmers’ income and so on. In a word, the country should create a more equal and open environment for the new generation of migrant workers, and guide them reasonably in their own desirable cities to live and work.
