Pig farming has occupied an important position in the Chinese livestock husbandry.Although there have been remarkable changes to meat consumption structures of urban and rural residents since 1980, pork accounts for the largest proportion of meat consumption and always occupies an important position in the domestic market. Meanwhile, China, as a great power of pork production and consumption, pork consumption accounts for half of the world’s total consumption. Thus, the quality and safety of pork not only directly related to the health of domestic consumers, but also indirectly affect the level of safety in the world pork market.Veterinary drugs are essential inputs of pig breed tache and play an important role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases of pigs, protection of public health and safety and so on. Therefore, scientific use of veterinary drugs plays a positive role in the pig breeding process for guaranteeing adequate supply for meat products for society as a whole. However, frequent safety accidents, such as “clenbuterol”, “antibiotic abuse”, and “excessive residue of veterinary drugs”, have caused the pork and its products export blocked in recent years. It’s high time that regulating the behavior of farmers veterinary drug use.Based on the reality of the situation that one of Chinese pork quality safety risk directly is determined by pig farmers in breed tache of veterinary drugs and additives used in a improper way, in this paper, on the basis of farmers and farmers economic, laws and regulations by the government theories, in the light of expanding the existing wide range of relevant research literature and Comment, the characteristics of pig farmers were analyzed based on an empirical investigation of 654 pig farmers in Funing County, Jiangsu Province,China, which focusing on excessive medication, replacing veterinary drugs with drugs for human and using veterinary drugs in withdrawal time, these three improper behaviors and using a MVP(Multivariate Probit)model to empirical analysis the main factor that may affect the farmers veterinary drug use behavior and the characteristics of veterinary drug used improper behavior of farmers. The study concluded that, it is common that farmers use veterinary drugs improperly, has security implications on pork quality and safety and consumer health. Factors affecting the behavior of using veterinary drugs are not the same.Male, the size of more than 30 is the main factor affecting farmers excessive use of veterinary drugs; poorly-educated farmers with a low awareness of veterinary drug residues is the main factor causing the behavior of using human drug in hog farming; farmers’ breeding period, sales target have the significant influence on their behaviors of non-compliance with the withdrawal period. Enhance farmers’ knowledge of veterinary drug residues, the awareness of related laws and penalties and strengthen the government’s supervision, can effectively reduce the possibility of improper use of veterinary drugs. In view of this, enhancing farmers’ awareness of veterinary drug residues and perception of relevant regulations and penalties forviolations are proposed. The findings of this study will provide decision-making advices for the government on the key regulation set of pig farmers and prevent the pork quality and safety risks.
