The number of Chinese tourists traveling abroad is increasing and haspassed the 100 million by 2014.China still maintains the world’s largest outbound tourist source country. With so many tourists abroad would bring the corresponding problems. Reports about Chinese tourists’ uncivilized behaviors can be heard without end in foreign countries in recent years,which is criticism or misunderstanding. Similar reports can be heard from time to time beforel finished this paper. This paper studied the reports on Chinese tourists from the western mainstream media New York Times’website, on one hand tolearn about others’opinions, on the other hand to study how the American mediashaped the image of Chinese tourists.In this paper, the report framework of Chinese tourists come up by analyzing the framework of reports on China form New York Times’website. The Authorselected 52 reports on Chinese tourists form New York Times’website. Then combining with quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,the author figured out the Chinese tourists’ image in the four dimensions:economic, social, cultural and communication. From this study, the author wants to explore China how to cope with the communication problems both internal and external.Chapter structure wereas follows:The Introduction described the significance of Chinese tourists’ image studying, combed the relevant documents and set forth specific research methods.The First chapter analyzed how the report framework of China was formed on New York Timesunder the change and developing relationship between China and America. Then use this framework to figure out the report framework of Chinese tourists on New York Times’website.In the Second chapter, after the overall studying of Chinese tourists’image reports on New York Times’website, this paper summarizes the image of Chinese touristsrespectively from economic, social and culturalthree aspects.The Third chapter analyzed the forming reasons of Chinese tourist image on New York Times’website from the three aspects.The Forth chapter explored the improving methodsfor China to strengthen its own image and improve cross-cultural communicative competence in at home and enhance the ability to communicate with the outside world.
