In this paper, starting from the background of the domestic and foreign development of HSR(high-speed railway), from the economic theoretical basis to the empirical validation, the paper is trying to define HSR Economic Belt’s concept, characteristic and formation mechanism, from the promotion of economic growth, the economic and economic activity concentration, and regional economic integration along the HSR Economic Belt, systematically analyzed the characteristics and mechanism of HSR Economic Belt. At the same time, with the help of the geographic information system(ArcGIS10.2), analyzed the spatial relation between our country mainly HSR line and economic growth, combined with population agglomeration model to analyze characteristics of HSR Economic Belt. Taking into account the construction of China’s HSR Economic Belt is still in the embryonic stage, so discussed six better conditioned high speed rail can possibly form the HSR Economic Belt. The main results of this study are as follows:The definition, features and discrimination method of HSR Economic Belt. The paper defines the HSR Economic Belt as an open and orderly geospatial unit, in which HSR as the main transportation, supplemented by other modes of transportation in the economically developed, densely populated area with huge demand for factor mobility, connecting more than two terminal cities and many medium-sized cities and towns. HSR Economic Belt mainly exhibit the higher level of development, the factors and economic activity are relatively dense, higher level of integration. Use ArcGIS spatial analysis and other technical publication to define its spatial characteristics and boundary analysis.The HSR Economic Belt’s formation mechanism. Early HSR Economic Belt improve inter-regional spatial accessibility, reducing the transportation cost constraints and expand the boundaries of the market area, thereby increasing flow frequency and boundary of the various economic factors, and ultimately promote regional economic growth. The HSR promote the movement and gathering of people, logistics, capital flow, technology flow, information flow and other economic flows, some sensitive economic activity about the traffic location will also move toward the HSR line. The HSR accelerate regional economic integration, mainly for the promotion of economic ties, industrial transfer and regional cooperation.The Beijing-Shanghai HSR, Huhanrong HSR are most probably forming HSR Economic Belt with intensive economic and demographic, Beijing-Guangzhou, Harbin-Dalian, Guiyang-Guangzhou, Nanning-Guangzhou HSR exist uncertainties. The reason is that the Beijing-Shanghai HSR, Huhanrong HSR’s development history is longer, with higher economic development level, large population, intensive capital, advanced technology, convenient information, and the population has continued to gather. Compared to above, the Beijing-Guangzhou HSR has lower per capita income, Harbin-Dalian HSR’s population outflow phenomenon is serious, the Guiyang-Guangzhou, Nanning-Guangzhou HSR crossed too much mountains and a small amount of plain, it seems the most likely to built the HSR Economic Belt are the Beijing-Shanghai HSR and Huhanrong HSR.
