For a long time, the geological reserach work in Bogda area has been focused on the division of regional tectonic units and rebuilding of Paleozoic crustal evolution.Though there are great expectations of ore prospecting potential especially for Cu,Au and other mineral deposits, there is little research and analysis on the metallogenic characteristics and prospecting potentials due to poor natural transportation conditions and limited prospecting breakthrough.Combining the previous research data with the project “Ore prospecting survey of Cu-Au polymetallic deposits in Shamaertawu,Balikun County,Xinjiang” by China Geological Survey, the author systematically collected and analysed the exsiting geological, geophysical, geochemical, and remote sensing data.Geochemical coverage work carried out in some chosen areas with good ore potentials, and geochemical anomalies have been delineated further according to the geochemical anomalies and mineral occurrences(mineralized points)in previous work.Large-scale geological, geophysical and geochemical survey as well as engineering verification were conducted to identify the metallogenic geological settings and conditions for Cu,Au,Pb,Zn mineral deposits. As a result, the metallogenic characteristics and ore prospecting potentials of Cu,Au polymetallic deposits in Shamaertawu Bogda area have been summed up.The main research results are as follows:1.The recent research made in the study area and its adjacent areas shows that a series of ultra-basic--acidic magmatic activities with mineralization appeared in post orogenic tensile environment in Late Carboniferous---early Permian, and various kinds of mineral resources mainly formed in this period.2.There are great ore prospecting potentials for Cu,Au,Pb,Zn,Ag in the eastern section of Bogda. The mesothermal Cu deposits(the Xidi Cu mineral occurrence),low-to-mesothermal Pb-Zn deposits(Pb-Zn mineral occurrence in the south of Hongxing Salt Plant),epithemal Au(quartz vein type)deposits(the Sepikou Au mineral occurrence),low-to-mesothermal Ag deposit(the Yiqisayi Ag mineral occurrence)closely related to basic volcanic rock all have promissing ore prospecting potentials.3.The mineralization in the study area is closely related in space and time to late Paleozoic tectonic activity and magmatic intrusion. The main ore-forming periods are in middle and late Variscan, mainly concentrated in late Carboniferous and late Permian. The mineralization is spatially distributed on the two sides of the regional fault, mainly controlled by fold,NNW-NEE secondary fault and intrusive rocks such as diabase,diorite.4.The metallogenic geological settings, mineral resource distribution and metallogenic characteristics suggest that in the study area there are promissing ore potetials for copper, gold, silver and lead-zinc deposits, and three ore prospecting areas have been initially divided.Good ore prospecting potentials for Pb,Zn,Cu,Au are distributed in the Nanshan area of Hongxing Salt Plant;Au,Ag,Cu ore potentials occur in Kazhahe-Sepikou area;whereas Au,Ag,Sb,Zn prospects are present in Xiaohongliuxia area.
