With the rapid development of the Chinese economy, the excessive consumption of fossil-fuel energy, increasing seriousness of environmental pollution and over emissions of pollutants have been highly focused by the Chinese government and different social sectors already. The concepts of Wild China, Ecological Civilisation Construction and Chinese Dream both indicate strengthening environmental protection and decreasing pollutant emissions are becoming the significant parts of economic planning. At the same time, because of the distinctions of economical levels, resource distribution and discharged pollutant's conditions in different provinces, the practical significances for studying the differences of discharging contaminants in China cannot be denied therefore. By analysing the differences and astringencies of the emissions intensity, the purpose of this paper is to provide the decision-making foundation and theoretical assistance for the regulatory policies of discharging contaminants in China. The literature review, theoretical discussion, situational analysis, empirical examination and conclusion will be included in the technological roadmap of this paper. Initially, the domestic and foreign literatures regarding the relationships between the economic growth and pollutant's astringency have been summarised. On this basis, the research approach of the intensity and astringency for emissions has been established simultaneously. Secondly, from the micro, middle and macro levels, this paper not only defines and explains the intensity and astringency of the emissions theoretically, but also comprehensively analyses the influencing factors regarding the astringency of discharging contaminants. Next, the conditions and intensities of discharging main pollutants are investigated practically through calculating the Gini coefficient, Theil index and Logarithmic mean deviation. Finally, the astringency of discharging environmental pollutants in China is also empirically studied, which is based on the spatial convergence model. This paper have three main conclusions:1.The emissions intensity has significant regional difference, with 2005 as the turning point, showing a trend from rise to decline. The west area is the largest value, and followed by the East area, Central got the minimum intensity. 2.The ? convergence of pollutant emission exist. 3.The absolute ? convergence of the emissions intensity regions do not exist, but existconditional ? convergence. Along with the development of economy, the adjustment of industrial structure, energy consumption intensity and energy consumption structure adjustment, the advancement of urbanization and the increase of the degree of freedom of trade, regional emissions intensity will reach their steady state level after a long time, the rate of convergence order from large to small is central, east and west.Based on the current study which lack of pollutants convergence research and research mostly focused on the single class pollutants, this paper have two innovation points: 1. The entropy method is used to calculate the emissions intensity, which is more comprehensive than it used to. 2.Use of the spatial convergence model to analysis the convergence of the emissions intensity.
