Standard parts are very important in injection mold design. A full set of injection mold needs standard parts from tens to hundreds. If we design the standard parts manually, it will cost 15 days to complete all standard parts in moderate injection mold. Due to a wide range of standard parts and different control size of each standard part, how to choose the size of standard parts has becoming one of the largest problems. Therefore, make full use of company's history design experience to develop the recommend system for the size of injection mold standard parts will not only improve the level of mold industry standardization and serialization, but also improve the efficiency of product design.Based on the process of injection mold design and the method of standard parts design, CBR is used in the recommend system for the size of injection mold standard parts. Based on the information models of plastic products and injection molds, the feature witch will affect the size of standard parts are extracted. Then through the description of the injection mold design example, not only the cases base is established, but also the process of case retrieval and similarity calculation are analyzed. Meanwhile, in-depth study of the 3D model retrieval, and use it to match the geometry characteristics of plastic products. Using 3D polar radius curved rectangular to extract the shape features and using the Euclidean distance to calculate the similarity of shape features. Finally, use the man-machine interface to realize the management and maintenance of the cases base.Based on above studies, the recommend system for the size of injection mold standard parts has been developed on NX platform. This system contains three modules, cases base management, cases recommended and standard parts design. With the application of this system, the designer can easily and quickly complete the design work of standard parts, and also greatly improving the design efficiency and quality of standard parts.
