Mineral processing industry plays an important role in the national economy and the application of automation control system is the key to saving energy, improving product quality and staff efficiency in mineral processing. It needs a series of commissioning process including RBI test, single unit equipment test, no load linkage trial run, cold test and hot load test which is time-consuming, laborious and also fraught with risks before concentration automatic control system, especially automation software, is put into field operation. Therefore, testing the automation software then finding and correcting errors in laboratory in advance has extremely important practical significance for shortening debugging time, saving labor investments, reducing debugging risks and costs.Different from field debugging, in laboratory environment. only acting on the virtual production equipment can automation software reflect its control function. Therefore, it is necessary to build batch of virtual device models in testing platform for mineral processing. Supported by the National Science and Technology Supporting Program" Advanced Control Technology of Whole Production Line of Mineral processing" (2012BAF19G01), this paper did a primary discussion for method of modeling virtual devices for mineral processing, and designed and developed a virtual device function module in automation software testing platform. The details are as follows:1. Difficulties of building virtual device model and requirements of virtual device have been discussed in detail based on detailed analysis of test for mineral processing automatic system in field, considering the characteristics of mineral processing:plenty of equipments, long process and large-scale.2. A approach of building virtual device model is proposed based on I/O channel table. The approach, which is in accordance with classification of device logic, consists of device logic model and device parameter model. Framework design and function design have been done for virtual device function module, which can help to achieve RBI test, single unit equipment test and no load linkage trial test for automation software in mineral processing.3. Virtual device function modules of Rockwell automation software testing platform using VBA script and OPC communication technologies have been built based on RSview32 and RSLogix5000, products of Rockwell Company.4. Taking the automation software for material handling station of a mineral plant automation project as measured object, the methods of building virtual device and the virtual device function module have been tested. Test results show that, by means of this virtual device function module, developer in laboratory can conduct single unit equipment test and no load linkage trial test, which makes a contribution to shortening field debugging time, saving labor investments, reducing debugging risks and costs.
