The ultrasonic cutting spindle system is the core component in the ultrasonic cutting process, and its operational stability and reliability determines the ultrasonic vibration cutting efficiency and surface quality, so it plays a crucial role in the ultrasonic cutting process. Any failure of the ultrasonic cutting spindle system will reduce the efficiency and quality of ultrasonic cutting and even destroy the ultrasound cutting equipment. To solve this problem, many scholars at home and abroad began to study the ultrasonic vibration cutting, but the domestic research started late. Currently, the research on the ultrasonic vibration cutting is still in its infancy, and the research on the ultrasonic cutting spindle condition monitoring system has not yet formed a set of perfect system. This paper takes the ultrasonic cutting spindle system as the object of study to carry out the research on the ultrasonic cutting spindle condition monitoring system, with main research contents as follows:(1) Making a brief history of the development of ultrasonic machining technology, compared wi-th the traditional processing way/the main advantages and applications of ultrasonic machining su-mmarize the status of development of the ultrasonic cutting spindle condition monitoring system at home and abroad, and propose the purpose, significance and main contents of the research;(2) Aiming at the mechanical structure and operating conditions of the ultrasonic cutting spindle system, carry out respectively failure analysis on the normal operation condition and abnormal operating condition of the spindle system, and on this basis, determine the condition monitoring positions and monitoring points of the spindle system. Monitoring parameters mainly include the power, frequency, power tube temperature, joint temperature, output voltage and output current of the ultrasonic generator. Based on the monitoring needs of the ultrasonic cutting spindle condition, investigate the market existing monitoring system architecture, and innovatively put forward one overall condition monitoring program based on STM32 + HMI. The main controller adopts 32-bit low power consumption microprocessor STM32F103RBT6, with the operating frequency up to 72MHZ and a wealth of peripherals and data processing capability, which can meet data acquisition, data processing and data transmission in the spindle system monitoring process. The upper computer HMI makes use of graphical programming language to make an interface, which is convenient and fast, and the upper computer also carries out real-time display, alarm and data storage on the collected data;(3) According to the proposed condition monitoring program, first design the hardware part, including the sensor model selection, conditioning circuit design, supply circuit design, serial communication circuit design and so on, and on this basis, make corresponding modules; next, carryout the corresponding program design on the software part, including the data collection procedure design, serial communication program design, upper computer interface design, threshold setting and alarm design, data storage module design and so on。 And make use of RS232 serial communication way to better achieve the data communication between STM32 and HMI; finally, combine the hardware part and software part together to form a set of monitoring system prototype for the performance test, and the test results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the design and that the system is easy to carry and extend.
