Gear slicing is a new machining technology for cylindrical gear. It can complete the machining of the gears with special structure such as non-interpenetrated internal helical gears without tool escape effectively, which cannot be machined by existing gear machining methods. At present, although a certain progress has been gained in gear slicing principle, CNC gear slicing machine and the error-free slice cutter design, the manufacturing of the error-free slice cutter is not achieved, this problem limits the popularized application of gear slicing technology. Therefore, the key technology research of spur slice cutter manufacturing is particularly important. Based on multi-axis NC machining theory of free-form surface, the grinding technology of the rake face and major flank face has been studied deeply in this paper.Firstly, according to the design of the error-free slice cutter, the structure of spur slice cutter is analyzed, manufacturing process route of slice cutter is proposed correctly according to the processing technology. For the grinding of the rake face, based on processing technology of the rake face, the grinding method is studied. The size of bevel grinding wheel is chosen according to minimum profile curvature radius of the rake face. On this basis, cutter location data mathematical model is established and grinding path is planned. Then, cutter location data without interference can be obtained. The appropriate machine structure is chosen, and the method of NC code obtained through post processing is studied. For the grinding of the major flank face, according to the distribution of concave and convex area, the method of point grinding with grinding wheel sideline is proposed. Cutter location data mathematical model is established according to the grinding method. On this basis, appropriate parameter combination is chosen to avoid interference with the method of orthogonal experiment. Ulteriorly, grinding path is planned to obtain the cutter location data without interference. Through post processing, NC code is obtained according to the B-type CNC five-axis tool grinding machine, and nonlinear error is calculated. Finally, according to the parameters of workpiece in gear slicing, an example is given to verify effectiveness and feasibility of the grinding technology of the rake face and major flank face.The grinding technology of the rake face and major flank face proposed in this paper can overcome the difficulties in the spur slice cutter manufacturing effectively and has good generality. It provides reference for the cycloidal and circular arc tooth slice cutter design and manufacturing.
