Nowadays, Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Storage Regasification Unit (LNG-FSRU) is the new type of high-end international offshore, which can be used for floating terminal at sea instead of the regasification installed on land, the function of LNG-FSRU is corresponding to mobile floating LNG and regasification equipment and will supply the LNG to receiver installed on land. The LNG-FSRU has been received welcome by more and more Owner thanks to the lower cost, short building period, flexibility and lower potential risk as well. With the gradually expanded adoption, it will bring the strong market demand to LNG-FSRU."Made in China 2025" has taken the offshore and high-tech ship as priority development of the top 10 sectors, and also clearly indicated that the LNG-FSRU is one of the priority ship type. In China, the research on LNG-FSRU is just start point without experience on building. We will carry out the research on the key technology and general design of LNG-FSRU in order to enhance the offshore international competitive capability, it will be of significance to explore ocean resource and development of Chinese ocean engineering.This paper takes LNG-FSRU as research target on the basis of a prototype of 170K m3 LNG carrier, the main dimensions and general design of subject vessel has been determined by investigating key technology of the LNG-FSRU. The major research will focus on the following:The major factor to be influenced on main dimensions of LNG-FSRU has been investigated and put forward. The main particulars of the subject vessel (170K m3 LNG-FSRU) have been determined. The hull lines has been designed and optimized on the basis of advanced CFD analysis technology. The ship speed and hydrodynamic analysis has been carried out based on the difference between the model test results and CFD analysis results of prototype vessel using the approach of potential flow theory and viscous flow theory.In face of the cargo tank feature of GTT No96 membrane and operational function and general arrangement of LNG-FSRU, the general arrangement feature of LNG-FSRU has been carried out, the general arrangement of cargo tank has also been performed, and the factors influenced on arrangement of cargo tanks and the geometry of GTT No96 membrane cargo tanks has been put forward. The main process of regasification has been discussed. The general arrangement scheme of subject vessel has been determined in accordance with the requirement of the operational function and arrangement of LNG-FSRU. The arrangement principle and design scheme of aft area, engine area, cargo area, fore area has been introduced in detail, and the general arrangement plan of subject vessel has been drawn and given.Considering the operational profile of LNG-FSRU, the loading conditions and stability analysis has been performed in accordance with the IGC Code, IS Code 2008 and MODU Code 2009. It is particular that the dynamic stability induced by resultant action of wind and wave has been also investigated to verify the safety and feasibility of the subject vessel. The IMO second generation stability has been investigated. The analysis approach of pure loss of stability has been performed. The pure loss of stability for different typical loading conditions has been verified to analyze the influence on the subject vessel. The sloshing analysis of cargo tanks has been preliminary investigated based on the ABS Rules focusing on the sloshing loading calculation approach and the factor to be influenced on sloshing loading. The theory fundament has been provided for the sloshing analysis in the future.With reference to the standard of ship industry in China (CB/T3886-2002), the evaluation index system of performance level has been developed and preliminary established in scientific, reasonable, completely and practicable manner. The evaluation index system of performance level foe LNG-FSRU has been used for the existing LNG-FSRU to verify the feasibility of the evaluation methodology of performance level. Evaluation index system will be used for assessment on advancement ranking of LNG-FSRU and to evaluate whether the design target has been reached or not. This will provide design reference for the LNG-FSRU in the future.
