Organic peroxides as moderate and low toxic organic oxidant are playing an increasingly important role in various types of oxidation in non-aqueous system. Cyclohexanone peroxide (CYHPO) as an oil-soluble oxidizing agent could selectively oxidize benzothiazolyl sulfide with no catalyst. The oxidizing products are not only the precursor of total synthesis in natural compounds but also extracting agent of some metal. We investigated the selectively oxidation of benzothiazolyl sulfide using CYHPO as the oxidizing agent.Solid cyclohexanone peroxide was synthesized by using hydrogen peroxide in acidic conditions. The structure of CYHPO was analyzed by IR, NMR and 91 wt% CYHPO concentration was determined by the iodometric titration method. The sulphur atom in thioether was oxidized. However, heterocyclic sulphur or nitrogen atoms and double bond remained unchanged under the condition of 45 ? with no catalyst by using cyclohexanone peroxide as the oxidizing agent. The oxidizing reaction selectively generated the product sulfoxide. Then the effect of solvent, temperature and oxidizing agent on the reaction were discussed. The structure of benzothiazolyl sulfoxide was analyzed by 1H-NMR?13C-NMR and MS.
