Dongting Lake area on Wu Han city circle, then under the Tan "3+5" city group, is an important ecological function protected areas. With the Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone promoted to national strategy for regional development, Dongting Lake wetland protection and development is increasingly becoming an important research topic. In the process of rapid development of economics, we are facing a long-term tradeoff between the pursuit of sustainable economic growth and environment protection. And rapid economic growth has resulted area increasing pressure on environmental resources in the Dongting Lake. In order to promote the sustainable development of economic and environment of Dongting Lake area, it is a significant issue to explore the relationship between economic growth and the change of environment and to search the factor affecting the quality of the environment.Analysis economic growth and environmental quality in the Dongting Lake area econometric by EKC model, the area of industrial waste water, waste gas and dust emissions and per capita GDP has the following relationship:(1) industrial waste and per capita GDP is presenting "U" type features as a whole, the amount of industrial waste water is discharged with the first decline after economic growth increased. (2) Industrial waste water and GDP per capita is generally rendered "U" type features.But because R2 is small, only indicates the approximate trend that emissions from industrial wastewater with the first decline after economic growth increased. And through subregional calculations in Dongting Lake Area of Yueyang, Yiyang and Changde, it confirmed that there are some differences between economic growth and emissions of major pollutants in the Dongting Lake area.Because the level of economic development in all regions and economic structures are different, econometric model simulations show that GDP per capita emissions laws in all regions and major pollutants are not the same, point of time inverted "U" shaped inflection is different. By LMD1 economic growth factors on emissions of pollutants decomposed into economies of scale, economic structure and technological progress, that economies of scale and industrial structure are pull factors stimulating effect of economies of scale is much larger than the role of the industrial structure. And pollutant emission intensity factors play an important inhibitory effect.Based on analysis of the quantitative relationship between economic growth and the amount of emissions of major pollutants and factors affecting pollutant emissions in Dongting Lake area, there are some measures should be taken:Dongting Lake area is recommended to be changed as soon as the economic growth mode, to achieve its optimization and upgrade of industrial structure; increase government investment in environmental protection, and enhance public awareness of environmental protection, improving environmental quality in the Dongting Lake area; environmental governance needs to be strengthened in Dongting Lake in Yueyang, Yiyang and Changde of integrated management and needs according to their characteristics to realize the coordinated development of regional economy and the environment.
