The main process method of cycloidal gear is form grinding, which is developing towards multi-tooth form grinding. It is mainly applied to large size and modulus gear processing. Since the size of cycloidal gear is closed to middle and small modulus gear, there is a contradiction between machining precision and efficiency when machining cycloidal gear with form grinding. Worm wheel grinding method is one of most common generating grinding method which is applied to middle and small modulus gear production. However, machining cycloidal gear with worm wheel grinding method can improve both machining precision and efficiency, and realize high precision and efficiency process of cycloidal gear. In this paper, firstly, worm wheel grinding method of cycloidal gear and grinding theory of worm wheel grinding are analyzed. Then, basing on machine tools and grinding theory, a new processing plan is set to verify the effectiveness of machining method theory. Finally, a 3D software simulation is applied to test the processing plan. This study covers four parts as following.(1)Firstly, a worm wheel grinding method theory of cycloidal gear is discussed. According to cycloid forming theory, deducing equidistant curve of curtate epicycloid profile equation in cycloidal drive, calculating geometry feature of profile curve, and analyzing meshing feature basing on geometry feature to support further research. Based on spatial mesh theory, spatial mesh coordinate system of cycloidal gear and worm wheel is built. Then, the wheel profile equation is calculated through envelope motion, and meshing performance is analyzed. This section is concluded with a simple analysis of grinding feature of machining method.(2)Secondly, a method of building worm wheel grinding math model of cycloidal gear is discussed. The main procedures of building math model include: setting up worm wheel modification coordinate system of cycloidal gear according to the method of diamond roller modifying worm wheel, calculating profile of form diamond roller combined with modification motion, and establish wheel modification model in worm wheel grinding of cycloidal gear, building movement model of grinding method, according to meshing motion relationship of machining cycloidal gear in practical worm wheel grinding processing. The profile modifying math model of cycloidal gear are built, basing on the actual application of cycloidal gear, the geometry meshing features of cycloidal profile and the profile modifying algorithm.(3)Thirdly, a process plan of worm wheel grinding method of cycloidal gear is formed. The YW7232 worm wheel grinding machine made by machine tool companies are selected as prototype. And a 3D model of the machine tools is build. According to the force bearing character of cycloidal gear and the demand of practical processing, a special fixture of cycloidal gear are designed. Basing on all above, the processing plan of worm wheel grinding method of cycloidal gear is formed.(4)Fourthly, Simulating cycloidal gear process with worm wheel grinding method in the 3D software. Basing on meshing theory of point vector, a worm wheel profile model is developed with Visual Basic program to calculate of point vectors of worm wheel profile. According to the results of the former calculation, a model of cycloidal worm wheel is built with Solidworks. Furthermore, carrying secondary Solidworks development based on VB to develop a simulation program, simulating the processing of cycloidal gear grinding, and finally verifying the accuracy of simulate process by compare the difference between machining profile and theoretical profile.
