Face gear drive is a new form of transmission system which has a promising application, because of its advantages, especially in the split of torque construction of helicopter main speed reducer. Concentrated on face gear manufacturing technology, This paper takes a research on manufacturing methods, grinding allowance control and its influence factors analysis of pre-grinding orthogonal face gear, and tooth profile design and trimming of worm grinding wheel,and tooth surface error analysis of grinded orthogonal face gear, and provide a theoretical basis for the processing of face gear.In the research on orthogonal face gear manufacturing method, The generating methods of the orthogonal face gear tooth profile are given. The coordinate conversion relation of pre-grinding face gear manufacturing with the normal tooth thickness slotting tool is established and the tooth surface equation is derived. Thin tooth thickness slotting tool is designed and its tooth surface equation is given. The coordinate conversion relation of the pre-grinding face gear manufacturing with hin tooth thickness slotting tool is established, and the tooth surface and the transition surface equation of the pre-grinding orthogonal face gear are given.In the tooth surface grinding allowance control and its influencing factors analysis of orthogonal face gear, the calculation method and equation of tooth surface margin is presented. Manufacturing methods with two kinds of slotting tools are analysed, The effects of face gear parameters and manufacturing error on the allowance of the pre-grinding orthogonal face gear was analyzed.In the study on design of worm grinding wheel and its repairing method in orthogonal face gear grinding, worm wheel tooth profile is designed and simulated, the calculation method and corresponding calculating formula of the length of the worm wheel is put forward, the repairing tool and methods of the grinding wheel are presented.In the analysis of tooth surface error of grinded orthogonal face gear, the tooth profile equation of the orthogonal face gear generated by worm grinding wheel is deduced, the feeding mode of the worm wheel and the contact trace in grinding gear is analyzed and simulated, the calculating method and formula of tooth surface error of the grinded orthogonal face gear is presented, and the influence of machining error on the tooth surface error of the grinded orthogonal face gear is analyzed.In the calculation and modeling software of orthogonal face gear, the tool modeling and manufacturing accuracy calculation software of orthogonal face gear is developed, including thin tooth thickness slotting tool modeling, tooth surface grinding allowance calculation, worm wheel modeling and tooth surface error calculation modules of orthogonal face gear tooth surface.
