Electrical submersible pump is mainly used in big volume liquid lifting work conditions, it is the one of the artificial lift methods in oil product level keeping, production increment and better economic benefit. Due to over production, the pressure of interval is decreasing, the load of sand rock is increasing, this results to the damage of bonding structures, which is the direct reason of sand product. The sand production rate during pump operation is restricted less than 0.05%, too much sand can make the pump propellers and diffusers abraded, production rate descended, central alignment bearing abraded, parts space expanded, vibration of the ESP body intensified, mec hanical seal of the motor protector fail, the motor seal immersed by oil liquid and the loose and breakage of ESP body connection bolts, which results the pump falling down to the hole.This Article starts from the damage forms of ESP caused by sand produc tion of oil wells, makes a simulated analysis on main flow parts, impeller and diffuser via computational fluid dynamics and Fluent analysis software, then analyzes the abrasion reasons based on statistics of ES pump abrasion positions occurring in sand wells during operation, and verify them by lab test. In addition, it introduces the ways to improve the impeller and diffuser on the basis of the abrasion positions and verified reasons including, the use of high hardness materials, reasonable design on centralizing bearing position, as well as axial play value and locking structure of impeller, change of assembly technology, all of which can prevent impeller from contacting with diffuser and ensure a certain floating distance without sandstone left and abrasion occurring among impeller, sandstone and diffuser while the fluid passing during operation in the wells in order to increase the adaptability to heavy sand wells and solve ESP failure problems due to sand production.If this new designed sand proof type pump is approved by the technology department of company, there will be a better outlook of the pump application in sand production oil field at home and abroad, it will not only extend the run life of pump ran in sand wells but also improve the product performance to a higher grade, and enhance our international market competitiveness, thereby to make big economic and social benefits. The axial force test during the developing of entire compression type pump operation will provide related data for entire compression type pump and high load protector research and development.
