As one of the important parts of engine, camshafts are used high-yield and widely. To a great extent, the working performance of the engine is decided by the machining precision and surface quality of camshafts. A lot of heat would be produced in high-speed grinding process of camshaft, most of the heat entry into the workpiece result in high-temperature in grinding arc area. The surface integrity of the camshaft would be destroyed because of high-temperature and even cause thermal damage on the surface of the camshaft(including burns, cracks, surface residual stress, etc.).Therefore, the temperature in high-speed grinding of camshaft is the research object in this paper, the high-speed grinding mechanism and process characteristics of camshaft were analyzed, the theoretical calculation of heat flux distribution model had been established to calculate the temperature in camshaft high-speed grinding, numerical simulation and experimental research of temperature in camshaft high-speed grinding were carried out, which provides a scientific basis for accurate monitoring and control of thermal damage process measures reasonably, improved the camshaft machining process, enrich the grinding process database. The research work mainly includes:Firstly, the camshaft grinding process principle and process characteristics were analyzed, the geometry and kinematics characteristics of the work-piece and the grinding wheel were discussed, camshaft high-speed grinding heat generation of the theory were analysis,the variable temperature heat flux distribution model were deduced for the theoretical calculation of temperature in camshaft grinding, and a kind of calculation method of heat distribution were proposed.Secondly, described the theoretical basis of thermal analysis of grinding process and thermal analysis on the basic theory of finite element method, the modeling of the camshaft were established by ANSYS APDL, a new method for surface grinding of heat load had been putted forward, and the finite element simulation of temperature in cam high-speed grinding had been carried in the variable heat flux distribution model.Thirdly, had put up successfully the temperature measuring device of camshaft high-speed grinding in infrared thermal imager, experiment of camshaft high-speed grinding was carried out, verified the correctness of the theoretical model and simulation. And analyzed the influence of the different grinding process parameters to the grinding temperature, the camshaft grinding process optimization strategy is presented based on temperature-control target of workpiece surface.
