Cattail fiber is a kind of natural cellulose fiber, traditionally used as the filler material, at present most of the domestic cattail fiber are left to fend for themselves, they don't get good development and utilization, which resulting a waste of natural resources. Fiber 's cross-section is irregular with a certain gap, making it has compression recovery performance, buoyancy performance, and the ability to absorb oil. It is necessary to study its performance and develop its value to apply in marine oil pollution and save life to make the theoretical basis.In this paper, cattail fiber is the object of the study, research air network technology, then test and evaluate prepared wadding's compression performance, buoyancy performance and oil absorption performance. Compare performance differences between cattail wadding and kapok wadding to provide basis for the development and application of cattail fiber.The content of this paper includes the following four aspects:(1) The preparation of the cattail high fluffy waddingCattail fiber, kapok fiber, PET fiber and ES fiber were used as the raw material, used air network technology and hot air adhesive to prepare different ratios of four kinds of high fluffy wadding, respectively: cattail/ES(80/20), cattail/PET/ES(60/20/20), kapok/ES(80/20), kapok /PET/ES(60/20/20). By scanning the electron microscopy(SEM) we can observe the morphology structure and calculate their structural parameters. It was found that fibers in the wadding were arranged randomly and were bonded by the ES, wadding's porosities were up to 90%.(2) The compression performance of the cattail high fluffy waddingUsing KES-FB3 compression test instrument to test the 4 kinds wadding's compression performance and four indicators to measure wadding's compression performance which were compression work, compression elastic recovery, compression linearity, wadding's fluffy. The results showed that compression work of cattail/ES(80/20) was 15.52(c N?cm/cm2), compression elastic recovery was 46.32%, compression linearity was 0.37. After adding 20% ratio of PET fiber wadding's compression performance had little changes, while its fluffy increas ed by a wide margin. Under the same conditions, cattail high fluffy wadding's compression work was less than kapok high fluffy wadding, linear ity was higher. The results showed that under the same condition cattail wadding was harder to be compressed and fluffy was less than kapok wadding.(3) The buoyancy performance of the cattail high f luffy waddingUsing buoyancy device which was designed by myself to test the buoyancy performance of the 4 kinds of wadding and three indicators to measure wadding's buoyancy performance which were buoyancy multiple, buoyancy descending and moisture content. The results showed that the initial buoyancy multiple of cattail/ES(80/20) was about 25 and its buoyancy descending was 8.74% with 24 h. After adding PET initial buoyancy multiple reduced to 17.86, buoyancy descending became larger. Kapok wadding's initial buoyancy multiple was larger, the initial buoyancy multiple of kapok/ES was about 35, buoyancy descending was 9. In the state of joining PET kapok is contrast to cattail, appropriate to add PET fiber can makes kapok wadding's buoyancy and buoyancy descending improve. Cattail's water content was larger than kapok wadding. With the adding of PET cattail wadding's water content would increased.(4) The oil absorption performance of cattail high fluffy waddingUsing four indicators to evaluate fluffy wadding's oil absorption performance, they were oil absorption ratio, oil retention rate, oil water selectivity and oil removing effect. The results showed that cattail/ES(80/20) wadding's oil absorption ratio was 48.4g/g, its oil water selectivity was 40.2 g/g; after the addition of PET its oil absorption performance can slightly changed, oil absorption ratio was 62.5 g/g, oil water selectivity was 47.5g/g; compared to kapok wadding, which had larger oil absorption ratio and less oil water selectivity. Kapok/ES(80/20) wadding's oil absorption ratio was 72.3g/g, oil water selectivity was 27.8g/g; kapok/PET/ES wadding's oil absorption ratio was 64.4g/g, oil water selectivity was 32.9g/g. The four kinds of wadding keep oil ratio were up to 85%, oil removal effect were 90% above.
