Domestic application of thermoplastic composites was in the stage of rapid development.However,appropriate matrix modification and fiber bed structure were important for the improvement of mechanical properties.The glass fiber mat reinforced polypropylene composites were prepared by melt impregnation method and the matrix modification and glass fiber bed structure were investigated from respects as follows:Compatibilizer kinds and combination,strengthening and toughening of thermoplastic composites,distribution design of modified matrix and glass fiber bed structures.The results showed that PP-g-MA could induce the formation of interfacial trans crystallization and adjust the micro structure of matrix,so appropriate interface bonding obtained and the strength and toughness improved;PP-g-AA increased the impact strength of GMT by 8%compared to the GMT without compatibilizer;The combination of PP-g-MA and PP-g-AA couldn't balance the stiffness and toughness of GMT effectively;Compared with compatibilizer combination modification,appropriate modified matrix distribution could improve the mechanical properties of GMT,and when the surface layer of GMT was stiffness layer that contained PP-g-MA,the tensile strength increased by 17%,the flexural strength and modulus increased by 29%and 27%,and the impact strength increased by 48%,when the surface layer of GMT was toughness layer that contained PP-g-AA,the tensile and flexural properties almost didn't changed,but the impact strength increased by 88%;Continuous glass fiber mat reinforced GMT has higher mechanical properties compared with chopped glass fiber mat reinforced GMT,especially the impact strength increased by 91%;The effect of glass fiber distribution on the mechanical properties was related to the amount of compatibilizer,when the PP-g-MA content was less than 5%,the out-shifting of reinforcement can significantly improve the tensile and bending properties of GMT,but the effect on toughness was not obvious,when the PP-g-MA content was between 5%and 7%,the tensile and bending properties of the GMT with the reinforcement body near the core layer increased greatly,and the difference between the two structures reduced.
