The properties of moisture absorption and diffusion in textile materials have a significant influence in the applications field and use value,which have received much attention since nearly a century.These properties of apparel textile are crucial structure parameters for thermal-wet comfort of fabric.In the research of textile materials,the wettability conductively of fabric is measured by the wicking ability of itself.The wicking ability is described by phenomena of wicking,which has infiltrated into lots of fields such as costume,industrial,shipping,aerospace and so on.This paper was based on the theoretical research about moisture absorption and diffusion of fabric,the liquid conductivity of yarn and fabric—wicking ability was the key point.The theoretical prediction formula of the wicking height and capillary force of yarn ware contained abstract fiber arrangement.The formula was built through analytical calculation of pore structure in the yarn and plain fabric and mechanics principle.It included the arrangement of fibers in the yarn,which is triangular or tetragonal closed-packed.The capillary radius was measured by fibers and their various structural parameters,which could achieve the scalability of capillary force and wicking height of yarn.In order to obtain the prediction formula,which could reflect the actual wicking height of yarn.The formula was verified and revised by strip-wicking method with the sample of cotton yarns,the abstract section of the formula was refined,materialized and quantified.In addition,the wicking formula of yarn structure was used as the foundation in this paper,we have divided the region and built the formula of liquid conductivity at each region in unit time,according to the characteristics of plain fabric structure.The main factors and their relationship which influenced wicking ability of yarn and fabric were obtained,the ‘full yarn’ theory was built and the pore aggregate of three dimensional size in the yarn structure,the scalability of capillary force and wicking height of yarn was achieved.The formula of wicking height of yarn and the liquid conductivity of fabric structure was built to provide theoretical basis for the research of the properties of moisture absorption and diffusion of textile materials.The computing method of pore aggregate in the formula could be derived to other materials and structures.The formula could be extended to a variety of yarn and fabric structure,make it more universality.
