The resin bond diamond abrasive is one of the largest use of diamond abrasive tools. Compared with metal bonded diamond abrasive and ceramic bond diamond abrasive, resin bond diamond grinding wheel with abrasives curing temperature is low, only about 200 ?, far below the molding temperature of the metal bond and ceramic bond diamond tools; It's production cycle is short, and it need simple equipment, less energy consumption. production scale can reduce the cost; It can improve grinding sharp by itself; Work piece by resin bond diamond abrasive is bright and clean, Applying to mirror grinding. Its disadvantage is that life is short, poor heat resistance, aging quickly. One of the most fundamental reason is: resin binder body has small holding force to diamonds. In order to improve the life of the resin bond grinding wheels, usually two methods are applied to improve the situation. One way is to try new resin or to modify the existing resin, to improve the heat resistance of resin; The method is to coat diamond some layer, improve the resin holding force to diamond. In the metal bond diamond and ceramic bond abrasive, the study of the application of coating heated popular, but in the resin bond diamond the research are rarely reported. The experiment used phenolic resin and polyimide resin as the basic resin bond. In this paper, the effect of corundum coating on the performance of resin diamond abrasves was studied in comparative experiment, by measuring mechanical properties and grinding performance of different coating test strips. The main results were as follows:(1)firstly, using polyimide(PI) resin as bond, under the condition that the content of the diamond, phenolic resin, chromium oxide, PTFE was determined, resin abrasive with diamond coated corundum had a relatively high grinding ratio, reaching to 2.286.Resin bond had good mechanical gripping force for diamond, abrasive had goodperformance with better sharpness and wear resistance.(2)Secondly, according to the best filler formula, uncoated diamond, metal(titanium, copper, nickel) plating diamond and corundum coating diamond were used to make two sets of parallel experiment samples, and their performance was studied to compare the difference of the coatings. The results showed that under the condition that other components of content remains the same premise, the coating on the surface of the diamond can significantly improve the abrasive grinding ratio, improve the efficiency of the abrasive grinding, and can improve the mechanical properties of samples. Titanium plating works best for grinding and mechanical properties of the resin abrasive increase significantly in the three metal coatings, and corundum coating works better than metal coatings.(3)Thirdly, in uncoated diamond formula samples, polyimide(PI) resin bond diamond abrasive wear resistance and have better sharpness;in diamond coating formulation containing samples, the opposite is true. In the absence of a water-cooled grinding conditions, phenolic resin(PF) bond with diamond coated steep the grinding performance improvement of abrasives more.(4)Lastly, plating on diamond surface can affect the structure and density of hot-pressed phenolic resin bond, and more rough surface, more influence. The structure of PF resin near the coated diamond is tight, forming a protective wrap for the diamond, the PF resin away from the coated diamond is more sparse, which is conducive to heat.
