Study On Metallurgical Records In Late Qing Dynasty

R & D and manufacturing of metal materials is an important part of scientific research,casting technology is still one of the main means of metal processing.Studying the history of casting can not only enable us to understand the development of ancient casting technology,but also contribute to the development of modern new technology.In the history of scientific exchanges between China and the West,Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau Translation Hall published a lot of scientific translations,which "metallurgical record" is a book called casting.In this paper,"metallurgical record" as the object of study,the book related issues to be a comprehensive inspection and analysis.The main contents of this paper are:1.Introduce the author and translator’s life and contribution.Examines the "metallurgical record" of the text,compare the differences between Chinese and English,analysis of translation methods and style.The translator did not translate the original text,but rather translated the sentence,only a few individual adjustments.2.Introduce the "metallurgical record" which the main content.Details of the books listed in the various tools and equipment,as well as modeling methods,and finally discussed the book involved in the cast iron knowledge,such as cast iron classification,cast iron impurities and their effects.Reviewed the development of ancient Chinese casting technology,as well as the late Qing Dynasty related works in the casting technology.This paper introduces the technology of Shifan Fa,Tao Fanfa and Lost Wax Method,as well as the modern casting technology in the book of the sea country,and compares the similarities and differences between the two.3.Discuss the spread of Western mechanics knowledge in the late Qing Dynasty,examine the translator group and its translation and the educational system at that time and so on.Listed the relevant works such as: "Metalworking","theory of casting" "treasure booming","Western steel making","iron making".This paper shows although the "metallurgical record" is only a technical manual,but the publication of it has a wide range of dissemination,we can see the "metallurgical record" translation and publication in the late Qing dynasty,it has played a role in the spread of knowledge.
