Proton-coupled electron transfer(PCET)reactions are ubiquitousin biological and chemical processes, the study of the PCET reaction helps to strengthen our understanding of respiration, nitrogen fixation, photosynthesis, mitochondrial ATP synthesis, and energy conversion in the fuel cell,Therefore,it is meaningful to study the reaction process of PCET reaction.Effective pH occurs near the electrode surface in dilute solutions as protons are released or absorbed during proton-coupled electron transfer(PCET)reactions.Effective pH causes peak potential changes and new peak formation. An excessive amount of buffer is uneconomical and may introduce impurities. We utilize cyclic voltammetry to study the electrochemical behavior of hydroquinone,p-benzoquinone,ascorbic acid, and dopamine in phosphate buffer. Two pairs of hydroquinone peaks appear in dilute phosphate solution.Only one broad peak is observed when HPO42-(proton acceptor)concentration is double that of hydroquinone. Moreover, the electrochemical behavior of hydroquinone is independent of buffer when HPO42-concentration is 4.5–6 times more than that of hydroquinone.Similar results are obtained for quinone in phosphate buffer solution, and the electrochemical behavior of quinone is dependent on H2PO4-(proton donor)concentration.Dopamine undergoes cyclization during electrochemical oxidation, which also releases protons. Therefore,a high amount of buffer is required. Our results provide a fundamental guide for determining the adequate amount of buffer for the electrochemical investigation of PCET reactions. In this paper,we use the above principles to experiment,in order to suppress the effective pH,Our results provide a fundamental guide for determining the adequate amount of buffer for the electrochemical investigation of PCET reactions. In recent years due to the rapid development of industry and agricultural production of human activities, the ecological environment and adversely affected and accelerated the process of soil alkalization, which make soil stable system and acid-base balance broken, resulting in the lack of nutrients in soil, crop production. Therefore,in this paper,we use electrochemical method to detect the buffering capacity of alkaline soil, this method without adding acid, there is no need to achieve acid-base balance, fast detection speed, high sensitivity,is a new method for determination of soil buffer capacity has practical significance.which can provide the basis for the balance of soil acidity and soil fertility.
