Tetramethyl thiuram disulfide(TMTD)is a kind of ultra accelerator for natural and synthetic rubber and latex.It can also be used with other accelerators together in continuous vulcanization.It is usually called thiram when used as pesticide.It is a widely used fine chemical products.TMTD is usually produced by Chlorination or sodium nitrite method in China.These two methods are faced with the increasingly serious safety and environmental problems,such as the risk of chlorine storage and usage.The large amounts of sodium chloride after reaction make the biochemical treatment of sewage difficult,and the use of nitrite may result in strong carcinogenic effects for mankind health.In addition,electrolysis and oxygen methods can alsobe used.But electrolysis process is complex and high-energy consumption.The use of oxygen may lead to dangerous situation,which makes these two methods can't be used in large scale production.Production of TMTD by one-step oxidation with hydrogen peroxide was proposed and investigated detailedly in this paper.The optimal reaction conditions were obtained after the consideration of the current environmental situation and the enterprise's production,The laboratory results are applied to the industrialized production for reducing the workers labor intensity,improving the operating environment,energy-saving emission reduction as well as improving benefits.The new process was designed based on the experimental data.The process route was set and the detailed material balance and heat balance and magnification are calculated.The non-standard equipments were designed and the model of the standard equipments was selected.The equipments list was given and the layout of the production plant was optimized;The raw material consumption and production cost is estimated for the developed process.The treatment of wastewater is discussed.The main achievements of the design lie in three aspects,that are the specifications of process design,process chart and equipment layout in the workshop.
