The polyester/cotton blend fabrics have many excellent characteristics,such as well-pressed,smooth,quick-drying and durable etc.They have been widely used.However,the chemical structure and physical properties of polyester and cotton are different.The polyester/cotton blend fabrics are generally dyed or printed by mixed dyes made up of the reactive dyes and the disperse dyes.So,there are a lot of problems in the dyeing and printing process.Reactive disperse dyes are the disperse dyes containing reactive groups.They possess both properties of the reactive dyes and the disperse dyes.The polyester/cotton blend fabrics can be dyed by a single reactive disperse dye,and the utilization rate of dyes is high as well as the colour fastness is good.These dyes can simplify the dyeing process,reduce the energy consumption,save equipment.The emission of wastewater can be greatly reduced so that they can decrease the pollution to environment.They can be used for dyeing and printing different fibers and blend fabrics containing multi-component fibers and so on..In this study,seven temporarily soluble azo reactive disperse dyes containing?-sulfatoethylsulfonyl group were synthesized.The chemical structures were characterized by infrared spectroscopy.The relation between structures and properties is also studied.The dyes could lose ester groups and become vinyl sulfone structure at high temperature or in alkaline condition.They could be applied to print for polyester fabrics as disperse dyes and for cellulose fabrics as reactive dyes.The dyes were applied to print cotton fabrics,polyester fabrics and polyester/cotton blend fabrics.The results show that all of fabrics printed by Dyel got low K/S;the cotton fabrics printed by Dye4 could get higher K/S;Dye7 was suitable for printing polyester fabrics;the polyester/cotton blend fabrics printed by Dye2-7 could get high K/S,the dyes could be evenly distributed in different fibers.The pringting process could reduce the migration of dyes and avoid uneven distribution between cotton and polyester.The dyeing property of reactive disperse dyes also be studied.The dyes were applied to dye cotton,polyester and polyester/cotton blend fabrics.We found that cotton fabrics got higher K/S than polyester fabrics when thay were dyed by Dyel;Dye2,5,6,7 had strong hydrophobic property and were suitable for dyeing polyester fabrics;the polyester/cotton blend fabrics dyed by Dye3 or Dye4 could get higher K/S.When the polyester/cotton blend fabrics are dyed with a reactive disperse dye,the dye displays different dyeing properties to different fibers,so that there will be uneven distribution between different fibers.There are many problems when the dyes are applied to dye process.But because the dyes are soluble in water,there is no necessary to add dispersant during dyeing process,this can save dyeing cost and reduce the difficulty of wastewater treatment.The study provide a new way for cleaner production.
