Tunnels are the main gateways for the ventilation,drainage,shipping,communication and backstopping of the mines,which have been regarded as the key projects for the normal mining operation.As one of the key components of the digital mining engineering,the 3D information models can provide the basic data resources for the construction design,mining quantity estimation and the automatic generation of engineering maps for the mining operations.On the basis of the detailed analysis of the research background and the current research status,this work first introduced the main technique routes for this research and studied the construction methods of the 3D information modeling for the tunnel engineering;it also described the design and management of the sections and the supports and focused on the introduction of the locally refined modeling and the global hierarchical modeling methods(during the phase of design).After studying of the existing measured data based tunnel modeling methods,we proposed two tunnel modeling algorithms: a measured data method via data partitioning and junction's Boolean operation to construct the connection model of the tunnel,and a spatial grid method which can build the connection model for a tunnel with any shape of the section without processing its junctions independently;The detailed system structure design and its realization were provided and an application of the proposed system were introduced by using the Beiming river iron mine as an example.The 3D information model of the tunnel can reflect the properties of the tunnel engineering and its production system,which can implement the sharing and updating of the information during the whole life cycle of the mining project.This saves the costs for the design and construction during the following mining phases which improves the efficiency of the working and pushes forward the progress of digital mining engineering.
