Cotton has been widely used in garment fabrics,industrial fabrics and decorative fabrics due to its softness,breathability,hygroscopicity and wearing comfort.However,the flammability of cotton fibers may cause potential safety hazards during applications,thus flame-proof treatment is of great significance with the increasing awareness of fire control in textiles.Currently,Proban and Pyrovatex CP has been employed in the flame-retardant process of cotton fabrics,but the irritant gases such as formaldehyde release would do harm to human health and environment.Therefore,it’s urgent to explore new flame-proof systems on cotton fabrics with high-efficiency and formaldehyde-free finishing methods.Non-formaldehyde flame retardant HP was synthesized by Dimethyl Methylphosphonate,Phosphorus pentoxide,Ethylene glycol(EG)and Ethylene Oxide(EO).The synthetic reaction of the cotton fabric flame retardant HP was crosslinked by a new crosslinking system and catalyzed by a new catalyst system.In view of this,the effects of concentrations of flame retardants and catalyst,cross-linker and curing conditions on flame retardant property are investigated.The optimized condition is flame retardant HP 350g/L,cross-linker DM-3500 60g/L,catalyst DM-3600 20g/L,curing at 160℃ for 3 min.Under the optimized condition,the char length of the treated fabric is 8.0cm.After 50 home laundering cycles,the char length of the treated fabric is less than 10 cm.However the conversion would be lower by adding flame retardant HP,cross-linker DN-3500 and catalyst DM-3600.In order to effectively improve the strength loss of cotton fabric,the use of softening agent and strong protective agent was discussed.The results show that the action of SVN-01(4g/L)as a protective agent is a highly specific function.In the final,the process and mechanism of flame retardant finish fabric were investigated by TGA and SEM,the system through condensed phase and gas phase flame retarding.In practical application,the fabric with single flame retardant function is narrow,and the added value of products is low.In order to broaden the scope of the use of fabric,the flame retardant and water repellent finishing was studied.More environmentally-friendly 6 fluorocarbon lines or non-fluorine repellent agent were used to treat on free-retardant cotton fabrics.It is showed that the after-treatment process could exert good water and repellency on cotton fabrics.The maximum number of marks for DM-3679(6C)is 90+.The maximum number of marks for Furex-616E、C6-01 and DM-3656 is 100.The treated fabrics have excellent laundering durability.All selected waterproofing agents are no influence on flame-resistant effect.The char length of the treated fabric is less than 10 cm.The fabric will have poor performance in wash ability and water repellency if use of fluorinated free water repellents.The score of water repellency only to 80+and disappear water repellent function after conventional washing.
