Nowadays,EDM dressing technology is widely used in the field of superhard abrasive wheel dressing.High-efficiency and high-precision were more and more required in the technology of EDM dressing for diamond grinding wheel.In the process of EDM dressing,dressing efficiency and electrode loss are the key factors to judge whether it is high efficient and precise.Therefore,it is very important to study the efficiency and electrode loss of EDM dressing for diamond grinding wheel.Based on the experiment platform of CNC wheel dressing machine,the copper-tungsten electrode for measurement was redesigned,and a high-pressure mist generator with special design was well-installed.Experiments were carried out in air and mist separately.The grinding wheel removal amount and electrode loss were determined by weighing method,and based on this,quantitatively evaluated the dressing efficiency and electrode wear ratio.The diamond grinding wheel was dressed by controling variable method under different electrical discharge parameters.Comparing the mass change and appearance changes of grinding wheel,the influence rules of discharge parameters on dressing efficiency was summarized.Also,the influence rules on electrode loss were summarized by comparing the electrode's mass change.The experiment results with different dielectric show that the mist dielectric dressing efficiency is higher than in the air and the removal amount is larger.However,when discharge power exceeded a certain range,the decrease of removal amount can happen in both dielectric.Under the condition of mist dielectric,the dressing efficiency got higher when the moisture content was high.The experiment results with different electrical discharge parameters show that in a certain range,EDM dressing efficiency increases with the increase of discharge power,but beyond the certain range,the dressing efficiency decreases with increasing discharge power.For the pulse interval,increasing the pulse interval within a certain range,it is more effective to maintain the state of spark discharge,which is conducive to high efficiency dressing.Therefore,in order to achieve high-efficiency and high-precision in EDM dressing,we should consider parameters comprehensively and improve dressing efficiency as high as possible but without losing dressing precision.
