With the rapid development of automotive, machinery and electronics, medical,aerospace and defense industries, more and more high performance hard brittle materials wereused, machining precision and quality requirements of components became higher and higher.Metal bond superhard abrasive grinding wheel is one of effective method to realizehigh-efficiency and precision machining of complicated components. However, dressing ofsuperhard abrasive grinding wheel is very difficult, and traditional dressing methods can’tmeet the dressing precision of a superhard abrasive grinding wheel.Electro-discharge dressing of superhard abrasive grinding wheel is a non-contactdressing technology, which has the high dressing precision, easy operation and no dressingforce etc. Therefore, electro-discharge dressing method is an ideal dressing method for metalbond superhard abrasive forming grinding wheel. This paper aims to investigateelectro-discharge dressing of metal bond CBN forming grinding wheel and the main contentsin this paper are as follows:(1) According to the characteristics of the existing dressing techniques for forminggrinding wheel, summarizes the disadvantages of existing dressing techniques for metal bondgrinding wheel. Experimental scheme is designed for dressing bronze bond CBN forminggrinding wheel by electro-discharge method.(2) Based on the analysis of electro-discharge dressing mechanism and its influencingfactors, this paper studies the influence of electrical parameters on dressing of the bronzebond CBN forming grinding wheel.(3) In order to evaluate grinding performance of dressed CBN forming grinding wheel,the dressed grinding wheels were used in grinding saw teeth. The grinding performance wasanalyzed by measuring the surface roughness of the samples and observing contour accuracyof saw teeth.The experimental results show that using electro-discharge dressing method of bronzebond CBN forming grinding wheel is feasible, and dressing efficiency increase and dressingquality worsen with the increase of pulse width, pulse voltage, pulse current. In order to getbetter dressing quality and higher efficiency at the same time, it is recommend that biggerdischarge electrical parameters are chosen for rough dressing process and smaller dischargeelectrical parameters are chosen for finishing process.
